Wandering Eye Studios, LLC (WES) is an independent media company that specializes in films about art, design, architecture, urbanism and the human environment. The company was cofounded in 2023 by Alastair James Gordon, an award-winning journalist, cultural historian and filmmaker. For more than twenty years, he wrote a column on art and design for the New York Times and, later, the Wall Street Journal, as well as other publications including Vanity Fair, Le Monde, Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, New York Observer, and Dwell. In addition to his journalism, Gordon has published more than 28 books on art, architecture, and the environment, including such critically acclaimed titles as Weekend Utopia, Naked Airport, Spaced Out, Theater of Shopping, Island Follies, Wandering Forms, and Romantic Modernist, the only book-length publication devoted to the life and work of Norman Jaffe. In 2016, he launched the “Poetics of Place” writing program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design and has taught/lectured at many other institutions. Gordon received an MFA from Yale University and has won numerous awards including fellowships from the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, the Pardee Prize, the Geraldine R.
